In 1983 N.C. Senior Games began with a vision to create a year-round health promotion and education program for North Carolinians 55 years of age and better. Today, there are over 60,000 participants in 54 Local Games programs that serve all 100 counties across the state. Senior Games is a holistic approach to body, mind and spirit staying fit, while enjoying the company of friends, family, spectators, and volunteers. Eligibility requirements are to be a resident of Davidson County for at least 3 months and 55 years of age. Men and Women participate in different age categories. Events are Opening Ceremonies, Silver Arts, Follies, and Fun Walk. Track Events consist of 1500 Meter Race Walk, 100 Meter Dash, 400 Meter Dash, 5 K Race Walk, and, 200 Meter Dash. Sports Events include Discus, Shotput, Softball Throw, Football Throw, Standing & Running Long Jumps, Billards, Tennis, Horseshoes, Basketball Shoot, Table Tennis, Checkers, Golf, Croquet, Bowling, Swimming, Spin Casting. Card Games are Bridge and Pinochle. Visual Silver Arts include Oil Painting, Watercolor, Pastels, Sculpture, Acrylics, Drawing, Photography, Mixed Media. Heritage Silver Arts consists of Quilting, Jewelry, Pottery, Weaving, Basketry, Hooked Rugs, Woodcarving, Tatting & Needlelace, Stained Glass, Needlework, China Painting, Tole Painting, Crocheting, Knitting, Woodworking. Literary Silver Arts include Poetry, Short Story, Life Experiences (Autobiographical) Essay/Article. Performing Arts consist of Vocal, Solo, Instrumental, Small Group (2-4), Dance, Large groups (5+). Performing Arts requires a detailed description of your act used for the introduction of the group at the Performing Arts Follies.  Awards of gold, silver, and bronze medals presented to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place men and women finalist for each category. Performing Arts and SilverArts will receive ribbons.
