Our Mission

The mission of the Davidson Soil and Water Conservation District is to provide technical and informational assistance for the conservation of our natural resources.
County Students Participate in Envirothon:   Teams from our Davidson County Middle and High Schools, and Central Carolina Home Educators participate in the Envirothon. The Envirothon tests students knowledge of aquatics, current environmental issues, forestry, soils, and wildlife in a team competition.

Davidson County was well represented with 10 teams this year during the 2010-2011 Envirothon.
There were 22 middle school and 27 high school teams who participated in The Southern Piedmont Envirothon which was held at the Catawba College Center for the Environment in Salisbury on March 30th and March 31st and the North Carolina Envirothon was held at Cedarock Park in Alamance County on April 24th and 25th.

We are pleased that Davidson County had 4 teams that qualified for the State Envirothon.  The home schooled DC Awesome Opossums were declared as 2nd place at the middle school contest, and the home schooled DC Endemic Team came in 3rd place at the high school contest.
The Davidson County Home School Team is the FFA Team that will compete in Indianapolis, Indiana on October 19th - 22nd.  This is the first year that the FFA has allowed a Home School Team to participate.

The Envirothon is North America's largest environmental competition. It is sponsored in North Carolina by the NC Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts and the NC Division of Soil and Water Conservation. It is sponsored locally by the Davidson Soil and Water Conservation District. Financial supporters include Catawba College, Duke Energy, NC Farm Credit, NC Electric Membership Cooperatives, The Blumenthal Foundation, Syngenta, and Progress Energy.
